Isabella’s Mermaid Themed Birthday

Hi ! My name is Iffat and I’m an oceanholic! 🙂 I feel calm and more content near the ocean. So when I had to pick a theme for my daughter’s first birthday party no wonder I went for an “under the sea” theme ! At first I wanted to throw the party in our backyard by the pool but my husband suggested to have the party outside the house , some place where guests can be more engaging or kids can be more interactive. So naturally I came up with the idea to throw the party at the park which is literally just five mins from our house. It’s a gorgeous lakefront park with an aquatic center, splash pad, disc golf, hiking trails and a Vietnam memorial. A perfect place to gather with family and friends for a picnic or a walk or fishing or just whatever. kids love to get wet and play in the splash pad , so the sitting area near the splash pad overlooking the lake was the perfect location. After spending a decent amount of time on Pinterest I got some ideas about what we were going to do. Let’s take a look :

Food: For the “mermaid themed” food , we decided to have : 1. an “under the sea” cake, 2.mermaid cupcakes , 3. oyster cookies with pearls and 4. Blue ocean water( a virgin cocktail made from Blue Hawaiian Punch, Pineapple juice and Ginger ale) . I ordered the cakes, cupcakes and cookies from Pyar Escalante Brazile , she’s a mom and an extraordinary baker from Tupelo , who bakes unique desserts from home. I wanted the cake to be a showstopper and she nailed it! For entrees, we decided to go for traditional Bangladeshi menu. So I made Veggie Rice, Chicken curry, Garden Salad and my good friend Preeti brought “Chole” ( Red kidney beans curry) for the guests . I made a fruit tray for the appetizer.For dessert, we had cake, lots of different flavors of cupcakes ,cookies, lots of candies for the kids, popsicles from our popular local brand and lots of cold drinks so that nobody passes out in the heat!

Decor: For decor, I got most of the stuff from Amazon prime. I got the mermaid birthday party decorations set which has things like birthday banner, balloons, invitation cards ,all the cutleries and lots of other stuff. Even Isabella and my dress ,our sequin tablecloth all came from Amazon prime.Also I got a big mermaid balloon arch from Amazon which you have to make it yourself. So I got the helium tank from Walmart and Philip made the whole balloon arch. I got some decor stuffs from Hobby Lobby to decorate the dessert table. I wanted a big name sign for Isabella so I got some wood letters, paint and glitter from Walmart and painted it by myself.

Entertainment: Splash pad was more than enough for the kids to have fun. They got wet, played in the water , took little breaks for the popsicles or candies and had the time of their lives. Isabella did a cake smash which was really cute. Isabella’s fav music station ( wheels on the bus! :)) was playing on the speaker. Everyone was talking and laughing ……it was a good time.

Our little mermaid is one and we loved shellebrating her first mermaid birthday with our close -knit group of friends . Philip and I are so pleased and thankful to everyone who came and blessed our little babygirl .Couldn’t ask for more.
